Senior help around the world

It is reported in the United States that the typical caregiver is a woman, around 46 years old and she provides more than 20 hours of care per week for her Mother.  I began wondering what the caregiving situation was like around the world.  A quick Google search for “caring for elderly around the world” produced some interesting results.  My favorite was a report from CNN that you can view here:

Here are some more snippets about senior help around the world.

Elderly Norwegians head for Turkey and Spain for care

A new company, Scandinavian Life Center, owned by Alpar Invest, plans to send 20,000 Norwegians to Turkey within two years. The first 200 have already gone.

This is part of a trend for Norwegians in care homes to travel to warmer climates over winter, or when recovering from an operation.

It appears that the challenge of providing quality  senior help is a universal issue.  Perhaps if we all work together, we may meet the challenge and find the resources that will be needed to provide care for the next generation of those aging.  CNN’s wonderful report on the elderly in Andorra is encouraging.   The country has the highest longevity rankings in the world and so it deserves a good look to see how the Andorrans live and how they care for their elderly.
