There are great services that assist families. One that helped me is battleforseniorcare.com.My mother received her own personal elder care manager who reported the treatment she was receiving in the assisted living place.I live 100 miles from her and can't visit often. When the facility sees a person visiting a resident often, they're less likely to neglect her.I ask them to visit once a week.

Excellent tips and suggestions. I agree... those are the main places to start and they will - no doubt - lead to others depending on the users needs. Thanks for sharing, it will stream line the process for many families.

Thanks for sharing this great post. I knew about most of the resources listed above. Although, 211 was definitely a new one.

i think that one resource that could be added to the list is the local in-home care agency. Yes, these are often for-profit businesses. But they have tons of experiences in dealing with things that can be really stressful. I would give them a call just to chat and ask advice.

I work on an eldercare blog for a nation-wide network of caregivers and we often give aging in place or eldercare advice. So you can also ask us a question at .

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks again for your on target summery of the best, easiest, quickest sources of information for long distance caregivers. Caregiver stress is a number one problems. Whatever we can do to minimize it, we should do and do without guilt. And don't forget to hang on to the sense of humor. Sometimes that's all we have.
